Blindside started by chance. The Nicholas Building has a history of ARI and a home of creativity in Melbourne’s CBD – housing numerous artist studios and creative businesses. Several of the inaugural committee members had artist studios in the Nicholas Building and came into possession of room 14 and the adjoining studio space when it became available at short notice.
The room is intimate yet the windows that lead out onto Federation Square provide a fantastic backdrop and extension to the space. With large ceilings and various wall surfaces to play with, Blindside represents the open and collaborative nature of ARIs in Melbourne.
The space has electricity and numerous power points, walls to afix things to, ceiling hooks to suspend works and a large amount of floor space to display sculpture and interdisciplinary works. Lights, plinths, television monitor and other typical gallery equipment.
