Artist and Writer working in River Studios

About Camila

I am an artist and writer based in Melbourne. My work explores the presentation and organisation of non-linear time and memory, particularly in connection to place and space. I use a range of mediums, mostly painting, text, and video. I completed a Bachelor of Fine Art (First Class Honours) in Painting at RMIT University, Melbourne in 2012.

I have exhibited across Melbourne and Los Angeles and my writing has been published in various locations online and in print. Across 2011/2012 I hosted ‘Let’s Art’, a weekly arts radio show on Radio Valerie that ran for 30 episodes. Between 2013-14, I lived and worked in Los Angeles, where I completed a seven-month internship at Benderspink and studied sketch writing at the Upright Citizens Brigade.

I am currently working on a research project with Los Angeles-based comedy production company CleftClips, looking at how comedians organise and use memory.

How do you use your space?

I use my space as a place to experiment with and organise my studio practice. I work in a project-based way, so it is great to have a dedicated place to house my thoughts, and where I have the space to lay everything out at once. There is also a wonderful community of artists at River Studios, so exchanging feedback with my peers is a great added extra to the studio space.
