"The conceptual basis of my practice is the investigation of the sublimation of the abject, this being externalised through the use of repetition into/onto the material, and objectively examined through psychoanalytic, cultural and sociologically based research.
"In the repetitive mark and the action, the materiality of energetic interactions between the body and the material become externalised - thinking as embodied object. "
Phebe Parisia has exhibited in Australia and Internationally, her work is held in private collections in Australia, Iceland and Finland.
How do you use your space?
I appreciate the free space between the individual studios at River Studios, the light, air and free visual space that the studios offer, the simplicity of material that surrounds my artwork and my thinking. I use the studio to plan and execute large, time consuming and detailed work, with periods of high activity as well as the pause for reflection. It is an active studio with artists having respect for each other's practice and the intensive self initiated isolation this requires coupled with connection and conversation that is integral to the community of arts workers in Melbourne.
