Soft Sculpture Artist working in River Studios
Sia Cox is a sculptor and scavenger. In her art practice, she uses expended materials like old clothes and cardboard boxes to make soft sculptures that reflect on relationships between people and place. Recently Sia has been using fragments from her Grecian great grandmother’s textile designs to explore Australia’s rich immigration history. Sia graduated from The National Art School, Sydney in 2009 and has been exhibiting in solo and group exhibitions and performances since. Sia was an artist in residence at Tangentyere Artists 2012-13, has worked as an art teacher in TAFE and community development settings throughout the Central Desert since 2009 and now lives in Melbourne.
What attracted you to the space and what makes your studio suitable for your practice?
The thing I find most exciting about River Studios is the creative community, the atmosphere is buzzing and supportive. The generous studio space makes it perfect for me, allowing room to explore both my sculpture and print making practices.
