Multi-discipline Artists working in Creative Spaces LAB-14 Studio
Creative Spaces LAB-14 Residency 3
9 September 2017 - 20 December 2017
About Fragment 31 (Leisa Shelton and James McAllister)
Fragment 31 is an artist led collective, focussed on interdisciplinary practice and research. It was founded in 2010 by Leisa Shelton with associate artists assembling in varying combinations depending on the requirements of the diverse projects under investigation. For LAB14, the residency will be shared with long standing collaborative partner designer/artist James McAllister.
Recent collaborations have included:
MAPPING - Australian Media Art, features in Experimenta Recharge: the 6th International Biennial of Media Art, (2015/17) traces a public history of Australian media art and its artists. It sits alongside Mapping Australian Live Art, commissioned for the 2014 Festival of Live Art FOLA, with Arts House, Melbourne and builds towards Performing the Archive for Experimenta in 2017.
SCRIBE - a live writing project commissioned for FOLA 2016, which archives the experience of festival audiences to create the democratic document of the host festival/event. It has recently been re-presented in the UK with SPILL Festival, and in 2017 will be a citywide project for DANCE MASSIVE, with interest from festivals in Glasgow, Spain, Bristol and Manchester.
What attracted you to the space and what makes your studio suitable for your practice?
The main attraction was the focus on investigating projects that consider Sustainability as both a practice and thematic from which to begin responding. The chance to work within a building of key researchers, academics and experts on Climate Change, Resilience and Futures offers us an exceptional opportunity to extend and challenge our knowledge and current practice directions.
