Textile Artist working in River Studios
Leah McMahon is a graduate of the Bachelor of Textile Design Program at RMIT and has recently completed her Masters in Arts Management. Leah identifies as a Textile Artist, whose work investigates concepts including; Identity, sexuality and social inclusion.
By observing and attempting to understand interpersonal relationships and accounts of self-perception. Her work begins by generating a series of small paper based works, incorporating the use of ink, watercolour, and gouache, as well as integrating the use of photography and computer aided design.
Experimenting with disparate mediums is an integral part of her practice. Creating textures through layers to form unique surface designs which have been manipulated and distilled to create a narrative.
What attracted you to the space and what makes your studio suitable for your practice?
Through the diversity of my experience I have developed skills and knowledge in different areas of visual arts and community development. River studios provides me with the opportunity to develop my creative practice as well as network with my peers and potentially collaborate on creative projects.
