Painter working in River Studios

I've recently finished my Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts at RMIT in printmaking and painting after working as a ceramicist in Hobart for the past five years. Moving to Melbourne was a chance for me to start painting, something I've always wanted to do but was too scared to until now. I'm beginning my exploration into the medium of oil paint with a lot of figurative works, looking at different ways to render flesh and muck about with abstraction. I enjoy working large scale and just using my fingers a lot with rags to paint rather than brushes, sometimes it feels like building a three dimensional figure in two dimensions is really helped if you can work at it like a piece of clay.

What attracted you to the space and what makes your studio suitable for your practice?

I love Footscray and the river and the industrial precinct, so River Studios were the perfect place for my first Melbourne studio. It feels private and yet communal at the same and has great natural light for painting.
