Space overview
Alexandra Battery exists as one of six batteries built in the 1880s to form the Derwent Defence Network. It is located on Sandy Bay Road, just a 12-minute drive from the city centre.
Today the battery is a public park with wonderful views over the River Derwent. Much of the original structure remains making it a popular spot for film shoots, period dramas, promenade theatre, outdoor festivals and other creative events that lend themselves to the restored character of the space.
