Arts & Ecology Centre Residency
Expressions of Interest
Creative Spaces is seeking expressions of interest from Sunshine Coast based artists and creative practitioners for a month long residency at the Arts & Ecology Centre, Maroochydore. Artists will have access to the space between Sunday 23 June to Sunday 21 July 2019 and can request up to $7500 for artist fees and materials.

First Nations First, priority will given to Traditional Owners (Kabi Kabi & Jinibara people) and local Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander artists.
This opportunity is funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund, a partnership between the Queensland Government and Sunshine Coast Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
The Arts & Ecology Centre is a unique workshop and exhibition venue set in the beautiful Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Gardens on the Sunshine Coast. A workshop, exhibition, meting place close to creeks, lagoons, bush walks and of course, a myriad of native plants and wildlife. The centre is also home to the renowned Sculpture Garden, offering a unique experience of world-class art works in a natural setting.
This space would particularly suit eco, sustainable and environmental practices. The Centre design includes informal outdoor spaces, integrating the venue with the surrounding gardens and eucalypt forest, and spaces can be furnished or unfurnished allowing for workshops and events that bring the “outside in”. The Centre features polished concrete flooring throughout.
This tranquil and contemporary venue offers a multipurpose room capable of seating up to 80 people theatre style. The Multipurpose Room is the larger of the two spaces available to hire directly adjacent to an undercover area & scenic courtyard along one side of the room. The alternate side of the room offers access to an adjoining timber deck.
Wet & Dry Workshop:
The venue also offers another space for hire, the Wet & Dry Workshop capable of accomodating up to 20 people. The space offers large movable walls which provides open integration with outdoor workshop space.
Due to school holiday programming the spaces are only available to hire outside of school holiday periods. The venue availability is within the gardening opening hours of:
- 7:00am to 5:00pm (April to October)
- 7:00am to 6:00pm (November to March)
Later bookings may be available upon request.
The venue is a 'self-service' model which means the hirer is responsible for the set-up and pack down/cleaning of the venue. Hirers must supply their own cloths and teatowels
Furniture and Equiptment.
Directly adjacent to the Wet & Dry Workshop is the store room with chairs and tables avaialble for use in the rooms. A mobile whiteboard with mounted projector is avaialble for use in either of the rooms (hirer can move to desired location).
A kitchenette for hirer use is available in the Wet & Dry Workshop room, also available for hirers booking the Multipurpose Room. The kitchenette has the following facilities avaialble:
- 20L urn + kettle
- Domestic top mount fridge/freezer
- Crockery; plates, bowls, side plates, cups, saucers & cutlery to cater for up to 70 people.
Unfortunately no oven or stove top available
At the main entrance of the Arts & Ecology Centre is a cafe operated by Compass Institute. The cafe is open 9:30am - 2:30pm Monday - Friday. Hirers may engage Compass to provide catering for their events by contacting Compass Institute directly.
Venue Hire Costs:
The venue is available to hire for community groups, meetings, small seminars, training rooms or low physical activities like Yoga or Pilates and private functions. Cost is dependent on the type of group booking the facility. Please contact us for rates and bond information.
