The Boyd Garret Writers Studio is offered through the City of Melbourne Arts Grants Program as writing residency supporting individual artists, not-for-profit arts organisations, collaborations and partnerships working in any field of writing to advance their practice. The Boyd Garret Studio is part of Boyd, the City of Melbourne’s first integrated community service space, housing the Southbank Library, cafe, family services, meeting rooms and artist studios.
Applications have now closed for the 2019 residency program. Applications for the 2020 program will open 24 May and close 5pm on 24 June.
Open to all artists and arts organisations | One 12 month residency available
Studio specifications: 20m2 with large windows, good natural light, carpet floors, high ceilings. Artists will have use of the Garret studio space and the Boyd building facilities. The Garret space is only accessible by staircase.
Successful applicants are required to use the studio at least three days a week during business hours and provide an opportunity where members of the public can engage with (readings) or hear about (artist talk) the work that was developed in the studio during the residency.
- Duration: 12 months. Artists are required to be in residence for a minimum of 3 days per week during normal business hours.
- Artist fee payment: $10,000 (plus studio space at no cost, valued at $4,000)
- Artform: any form of writing such as literature, poetry, film, script writing or playwriting.
