Gallery Aurora & Studios is a newly established artists run initiative located in the peaceful & creative suburb of Summer Hill in Sydneys Inner West. We hope to bring and add to the creativity of the Inner West in support of local creatives through solo & group exhibitions, workshops, skillshares & community driven events.
Located on Junction Road, just off old Canterbury Rd and a short walk from Summer Hill station we have access to a beautiful art deco shopfront set up for exhibitions, workshops & skillshares, a public and private courtyard, a communal darkroom, artists kitchenette and a large warehouse space with private and open studio spaces including a communal tool shed & workshop area & open chill space / dining area.
Our Studio Space consists of
1 x 2.5 x 3m Open Studio Space @ $80 per week (leased)
3 x 3m x 3m Open Studio Space @ $90 per week (leased x 3)
1 x 3m x 3m Open Studio Space @ $100 per week **OPEN WITH OPTION TO SHARE**
1 x 2.5 x 3m Private Studio Space @ $150 per week (leased)
1 x 2.5 x 2.5 Private Studio Space @ $120 per week **OPEN**
Aurora Studios encourages you to use your time here to experiment, develop new ideas, learn new skills, and interact with your fellow resident artists and the creative community of the inner west. It should be a time of rich exploration for you, and we, as the Directors and core collective, will help in whatever way we can to assist you. Our space consists of a shared communal Art Deco shopfront space we use for monthly exhibitions & community driven workshops & skillshares, a public outdoor area for both the Summer Hill community & artists in residence, a private outdoor area for artist in residence, a communal darkoom and a medium sized warehouse space consisting of 5 open studios, 2 private studios, a hot desk, a communal shared chill out & dining space & also a shared workshop & tool space. Including natural light & your own private locker space for added security.
Artist in residence will also have access to ~
- Communal kitchenette in the front gallery
- Access to darkroom at specified time
- Public toilet & personal locker space
- Tool shed
- Front loading dock space (at specified & pre negotiated times)
- Outdoor private workspace & garden
- Priority and cheaper access to the Aurora Gallery as well as free temporary use for
artist benefit including photo-shoots, workshops & skillshares (usage that has financial
profit will be split between the space and artists under negotiation).
- Promotion on our website and social media pages (in collaboration & consent of artist.)
- Negotiable access to all the communal artist facilities. Responsibility for negotiating
space requirements must be initiated by the artist. Artists must be mindful of others in
the space when using all facilities at Gallery Aurora & Studios.
Including this Artists are encouraged to:
- Attend group meetings every second month to discuss any changes in space
(compulsory to attend at least every second meeting).
- Utilizing and promoting the spaces facilities to the best of the artists abilities
- Contribution to shared communal kitchen pantry (tea, coffee, milk, sugar) as well as
what the caretakers provide. It will be a shared responsibility of the artist & caretakers to
Gallery Aurora & Studios is located in Summer Hill, providing artists and the community with access to each other. The artist in residence is encouraged to attend and participate in all of Gallery Aurora & Studios events, workshops, skillshares programs, etc. Aurora’s board members will also bring guests to these events. Aurora believes these events help to foster a sense of community among the artists and are an avenue for connecting with the public. They are interested in meeting and possibly working with the artist in residence.
