Hare Hole, the performance venue of Hares & Hyenas operates as a bookshop, bar and cafe during business hours with a liquor licence from 10am to 11pm daily. At night it makes for an ideal and affordable venue. All of its central bookshelves and furniture are on wheels and it converts to a boutique performance space with seating for 75 patrons in much less than an hour. It also has a courtyard garden that holds 12.
It has an excellent sound system, four LED theatre lights, mixing desk, two good quality microphones, a radio headphone microphone and mic stands, foldback speaker, data projector, free standing 2 metre screen and various cords, DI, compressed recording facilities direct from amplifiers, mirror ball etc. The space has excellent acoustics.
It has a small platform stage, with two small extendable staging platforms. A rostrum might be required for some performances. It is ideal for cabaret, music performance (amplified and acoustic), small theatre productions, solo performances, multimedia , spoken word, forums, etc. There is also a portable wheelchair ramp for the stage.
Dimensions inside the shop are approximately 57 square metres of usable space.
There are also two walls above the bookshelves for visual arts exhibitions. The venue is fully wheelchair accessible with a wheelchair accessible toilet and ramp for disabled performers.
$150 plus GST per night is the current standard venue usage cost, however, prices are negotiable depending on usage and heavily discounted for community and not-for-profit organisations and groups. Launches, parties, fundraisers and special events are usually free of hire fees. Ticket sales splits are also negotiated.
