    Moonah Arts Centre (MAC) is a flexible multi-arts resource for the 21st Century. MAC is a warm, welcoming space for working artists and patrons alike. The remarkable new centre, opened in 2015, allows activity to be scaled up or down as required. Enjoy outdoor courtyards, generous social spaces and purpose built exhibition and performance spaces.

    Owned and operated by Glenorchy City Council, MAC aims to enrich the local community by providing accessible and affordable arts and cultural experiences. The new, contemporary, state of the art facility promises to surprise and delight people of all ages.

    Applications to be part of MAC's arts program are welcomed from artists, arts organisations and cultural producers, and are accepted annually.

    MAC has a range of purpose built creative spaces, designed for different arts and cultural activity. These include:

    Exhibition Spaces

    • Exhibit Space - MAC’s large exhibition space measures 10m x 9.6m, and has movable walls allowing for flexible layouts.

    • Project Space - MAC’s smaller exhibition space  measures 3.3m x 9.6m.

    • Main Space (Exhibit & Project spaces combined) - The two exhibition spaces can be combined, creating an area of 128m².

    • Corridor Space - Suitable for solo artists wishing to show work for up to three months, with approximately 18m x 4m of wall space.

    Performance Spaces

    • Performance/Screen Studio - The largest of  MAC’s spaces and the most flexible in terms of potential uses (up to 150 guests seated, depending upon your required stage area). The floor space is 17.6m x 9.6m with a lighting grid at 6.2M. The space is equipped to support everything from a small film festival to an aerial circus workshops and intimate music concert.

    Makers Space

    • Makers Workshop - Available for practical classes and workshop activities, with a particular focus on visual arts, craft, and digital workshop activity. The light and airy space features glass doors opening onto an internal courtyard enabling inside/outside activities. There is also ready access to a kitchenette.

    Meeting & Social Spaces

    • Social Spaces - Our light filled foyer is a great place to meet and relax with friends or just to hang out.
    • Meeting Room - A comfortable, flexible and contemporary space to hold a formal or informal meeting. The Meeting Room (up to 12 people) is a sunny north facing room with a large boardroom table and  is available to local businesses to hire.

    Parking Notes

    Getting here

    23-27 Albert Road, Moonah, Tasmania

    Car: MAC is a 15 minute drive north from the Hobart CBD, just 10 minutes from MONA. There is FREE 3 hour parking opposite the Centre, next to Harris Scarfe.

    Bike: Take the Albert Road exit off the Intercity Cycleway. Travel 200m west up Albert Road.

    Bus: Our location in Central Moonah is served by Metro Tasmania’s Turn Up and Go service. Buses travel both ways on Main Road at least every 10 mins between the Hobart CBD and Central Glenorchy (Mon – Fri, 7am to 7pm). On Saturday bus frequency is every 20 minutes.
