Clay Talk is host to around 60 students on average per week engaged in regular classes, workshops, lectures, and Friday studio access. We also have 2 other studio artists onsite and although the centre is busy there is plenty of non-class time to use the communal areas – our timetable is updated and available each term.

Studio artists have the opportunity and are encouraged to be involved in workshops, teaching opportunities, sale of their work in the Made @ Montsalvat shop and exhibition in one of our 4 gallery spaces.

The successful applicant should enjoy working in a dynamic and lively semi-communal studio space. Interaction with students is quite common during teaching hours and you should find these interactions invigorating and enjoyable as having practicing professionals in the space means a lot to our students. Having said that your studio is completely private to provide you focused discretion when required.

    Technical considerations:

We have electric, gas reduction and Wood Firing (at seasonal pre-arranged workshops).

The successful applicant must be able to work with our current firing schedules coordinated by our Kiln Technician.

The studio is not set-up for plaster mould making.

The communal areas in the centre must sometimes be shared with students engaged in classes – timetables are always updated and available every term.

Toilets are separate to the Clay Talk building

Firing Costs: Firing costs are charged at $9.00 per kilo loaded and fired by our Kiln Technician. Alternatively, you can hire our entire kilns when they are available at a discounted rate.

Once an expression of interest is received we will contact you regarding an inspection of the space and should you be interested you will be asked to provide an application comprising a summary of your practise, images of your work and artist CV.
