Melton City Council is now accepting applications for the re-launched Raglan’s Cottage Artist Residency program. Creative practitioners from all visual and performing arts disciplines are invited to apply.
The Raglan’s Cottage Artist Residency program will prioritise applications evidencing a commitment to contemporary practice, with Melton City Council intent on providing a platform for artists to have the time and space they require to expand their practice and experiment with new concepts and techniques.
Successful artists will also agree to actively engage with the Melton community, either throughout their residency as a core component of the creation of their work, or by providing open studio/artist talk/workshop sessions.
Opportunities to present final works resulting from a Raglan’s Cottage Artist Residency, be it an exhibition or performance, will be facilitated in available Council facilities or public spaces (where possible).
Successful artists will be provided the Raglan’s Cottage studio space at no cost for a period of up to 3 months. The Cottage features:
- three sizeable rooms which are heated and air conditioned
- a kitchenette with working bar fridge
- on-site rest room
- picturesque cottage veranda facing High Street, the main street running through Melton
- a limited supply of chairs, tables, easels, and artwork plinths
All profits earned through artwork sales or program attendance associated with a Raglan’s Cottage Artist Residency will go directly to the artist. Melton City Council will provide assistance in managing program bookings and marketing events associated with a Raglan’s Cottage Artist Residency through established email groups and online platforms.

The Raglan’s Cottage Artist Residency program provides no-cost, functional studio space, community engagement and artwork presentation opportunities for visual and performing artists working across a broad range of disciplines. Residencies are between 2 to 12 weeks depending on the needs and practice of the resident and the particular nature of their residency.
The program encourages and enables participants to research and develop concepts for new work and engage with contemporary arts practice.
As a key requirement, residents are required to engage with the community, which may form a key component of the creation of their work, or be delivered through lectures, artist talks, workshops, open studios. Residents will also be encouraged to engage with Melton City Council to make arrangements for a final presentation of the outcomes of their residency, either in the form of an exhibition or performance where a suitable site can be secured.
Residents will be appointed through a combination of application and invitation opportunities.
A very brief written outcome report along with photos of residency programs will be required within 2 months of residency completion.
