The Motley Bauhaus is a multidisciplinary art space with two exhibition areas, a podcasting booth, a small theatre and performance space, a bar and several artist studios.
The ethos of the space is derived from the Staatliches Bauhaus school opened in Germany in 1919 that combined crafts and the fine arts. In that vein, we are focused on promoting skills based arts practises and fostering creativity in the wider community by giving a home to artists of any and all disciplines and running various art and craft classes and related activity.
The space is still under construction, due to open on the 20th of October, but the first studio is ready to go right now, and we are looking to fill it.
The studio is roughly 5.5m squared with an inbuilt bench and a fold out table. It has a view onto Egremont street which is a quiet one-way street and a large glass wall looking into the rest of the space. The idea is to have the studios set up in a way that during opening hours, patrons can observe the artists at work.
Along with your own private space, you also have access to the larger communal spaces when they are not being used. You also have the opportunity to use the exhibition spaces to display and sell your work. There is also a large double frontage with four large display areas you will have access to, to exhibit your work directly onto Scotchmer Street which has a fair amount of traffic.
You also will be encouraged to be a part of the community we are fostering. Which means watching shows, availing yourself of the bar and chatting to other artists, possibly running classes (which you would be paid for) and generally making the most of what we are trying to build. So there are plenty of opportunities to advance your career and make some money.
Applications are now open, and for the right person, this will be an amazing opportunity to be a part of a vibrant and unique art space.
This price is for the hire of the space. Sales made through exhibitions on site will incur a small commission fee.
There are several unrestricted car parks around the place, along with a lot more that become unrestricted after hours. During the day most of the spaces are around 2 hours unpaid parking. We also have a permit that can be shared around.
