Be a part of our arts community!
We have just had some new space open up and as such we have 4 decent sized, fully enclosed and lockable studios for hire.
Here are the details in bullet form followed by a more detailed description:
- Fully enclosed studios
- 3 private studios around 9-10 m2
- 1 shared studio around 25 m2
- shared use of large communal area
- kichen facilities and shared bathroom (with shower)
- Use of theatre and recording booth
- use of front window display area (street gallery)
- Great location
The studios are located upstairs around the edges of a larger communal space with a fully equiped kitchenette and shared bathroom with shower.
The studios are mostly around 9-10 m2 each with plenty of natural light and nice views of the surrounding streets.
Downstairs we have a bar area, small theatre (which we have been using for many a film night during lock down), podcasting booth, another hang out area and a few other studios. We like to create a nice community here so you would be able to have access to lots of the other stuff (theatre, recording booth...) on a roster system.
During stage 4 lockdown there are of course restrictions in place in regards to the shared areas, but using your studio is fine.
You would also be able to display your work in our front window displays. We call it the Motley Street gallery and it was started during lockdown as a covid safe gallery for the people on their daily excercise. We've had good sales in there so far as the locals tend to have interest in the arts and some expendable income.
In regards to the location... it's great. We are literally 30 seconds walk to Peidemonties, about a 1 minute walk to Edinburgh Gardens, lots of bars, pubs, restaurants... you know, the inner north... Which is all great when not locked down.
A little about the space when we are not in lockdown:
The Motley Bauhaus is a versatile and unique art, craft, performance space, and bar. With several galleries, a workshop area, intimate theatre, podcasting booth, bar and working artist studio we are providing a meeting and working space for artists, art lovers and lovers of artists.
We took our name from the Staatliches Bauhaus school opened in Germany in 1919 which combined art and craft and respected them equally. Similar to the original Bauhaus we are founded on the idea that artists are an important part of a healthy society and need to be more deeply integrated into it. In that vein, we are focused on promoting skills based arts practices and fostering creativity in the wider community by giving a home to artists of any and all disciplines and playing host to a cornucopia of arts-related activity.
Due to Covid-19 we are currently closed to the public but we have set up a street gallery out the front so if you're in the area, come past and check out the work we have on display. If you are an artist we are now accepting applications from people wanting to display and sell their work.
At the Motley Bauhaus we believe that art is crucial to a healthy society and should be a part of our every day life. We also believe that to engage with art shouldn’t be a chore or an obligation, but rather a joy and delight.
With several exhibition spaces, workshop space, artist studios, a theatre, a podcasting booth and a bar we are providing a space for artists to work, and to share their work and skills with each other the local community and the wider world at large.
We're very excited about extending the business upstairs and the new and wonderful artists we'll meet as a result.
There is plenty of nearby parking- several timed spaces (1, 2 and 4 hours) as well as some untimed spaces directly next to the building.
