Glenfern Writers' Studios

Glenfern, a National Trust house in the Melbourne suburb of East St Kilda (corner Inkerman and Hotham Streets), has been renovated to create a writers’ retreat, the first in Victoria. This is a joint project between the National Trust and the Victorian Writers’ Centre, who are administering the spaces.

Nine studios are available for leasing of periods from two weeks to six months. Glenfern is open to writers of all genres – fiction and non-fiction, poetry, plays, film or television scripts. The VWC complements this with a wide range of assistance to writers (e.g. mentoring, manuscript assessment) and public literary events.

A gothic mansion of the 1850s, studios range from large high-ceilinged rooms to more contemporary spaces. Each room has a desk, office chair, overhead light, lounge chair and the capability of telephone and internet connectivity (at the tenants expense).
