Details:

The Library’s most spectacular architectural feature, the dome, makes an impressive centrepiece for a special event. New technology has been discreetly integrated into the space, improving services and information access without impacting on the historical integrity of the room.

Recently restored and reopened as the La Trobe Reading Room, the atmospheric dome room features custom-built desks of Queensland silky oak timber, heritage chairs and the traditional green reading lamps. Since the reinstatement of glass in the dome ceiling, the room enjoys an abundance of natural light.

The State Library is open 10am - 9pm Monday to Thursday, and 10am - 6pm Friday to Sunday.

The La Trobe Reading Room is open to the public free-of-charge during hours, and is available for hire as a function space outside of these hours.
