Cylinder
Cylinder is a new public art space in the Melbourne CBD established, developed and managed by City of Melbourne Creative Spaces.
Opportunities currently exist for curators to present works utilising a repurposed ticket booth on Swanston Street, near Collins Street and adjacent to the City Square.
The interior and exterior of can be utilised for projects. The structure is essentially a cylindrical tube of stainless steel approximately 2.2m high and 1.1m deep with double doors opening onto the street. There is a power point and a single light source inside, and a translucent acrylic roof. The interior has an industrial feel with bare stainless steel walls.
Creative Spaces invites interest from curators who would like to devise a program of works for Cylinder in 2010.
Please contact us to look at the Cylinder and discuss your idea, or to send a proposal.
A proposal should include:
- A short description of the project/s.
- Details about which parts of the Cylinder structure you plan to use and how. Will it be open or closed? Are you planning to mount anything on it? Will an audience be present? Etc.
- CVs for the artists and/ or curators involved.
- A small amount of supporting material to help explain the proposal idea.
- A preferred duration and timing for your project. Proposals can be taken on a rolling basis with timeslots and durations flexible.
In thinking about proposals, curators should become familiar with the City of Melbourne’s Protocol on Artworks, which is available for download at the City of Melbourne website.
