Fashion Designer working in River Studios
My design ethos builds on the idea that we can combine fashionable clothing and sustainable design in a way that is still modern and desirable to wear. Over the past five years I have experimented with recycled, organic and fair-trade fabric choices and hope to continue my exploration into sustainable design in a way that is relevant to the current marketplace. After working for other start-up fashion labels who manufacture locally in London I now plan to start my own design studio that supports and enriches the local fashion community and manufacturing industry here in Melbourne. My label concept is built around well-constructed garments that will be a timeless staple in anyone’s wardrobe. I am currently designing styles that can be produced in a base range with a simple colour pallet and each season I plan to collaborate with a new artist to create a luxurious print alternative to cater to both the minimalist and the bold. My hope for the future is to create clothing that is deliberately timeless and socially conscientious, allowing consumers to seek individuality and self-expression in an understated manner.
What attracted you to the space and what makes your studio suitable for your practice?
River Studios has a great community atmosphere and when you're surrounded by such talented creatives there is a constant source of inspiration. River Studios is the perfect space for my sewing atelier where I can map out ideas and draft my collections in a creatively expressive environment.
