Painter working in River Studios
I am interested in painting for its ability to encompass various means of production. For me, painting is a process of reducing production. Currently I am investigating how colour can be used as an image itself. How colour can suggest a cropped image. We look at a sign and recognise its colour before we consider what the sign says.
Nothing is certain when approaching a painting, it is this uncertainty that attracts me to painting, how painting makes you react to yourself and your expectations... To reduce an image to a colour is essentially my main goal at this point.
What attracted you to the space and what makes your studio suitable for your practice?
The studio at River appealed to me because of its concrete floors and corrugated iron walls. The architecture of the studio is interesting to me for its history. This space will inevitably influence my practice.
