Missing Persons is a 67 square metre art gallery in the iconic Nicholas Building. It is newly renovated with white walls, a striking oxblood floor, and large industrial steel windows. The space has ceiling fans, a cold water tap and sink, a wooden cabinet/bar on wheels, and fluorescent and gallery track lighting.
We operate 7 days per week + after-hour access. Missing Persons is utilised for one-off and regular events such as life drawing, film, photography, book launches, music, theatre, plus more.
Missing Persons is fitted with a surround sound system and WiFi. We can provide 4 trestle tables, 35 folding chairs, and bench seating for 36 people at no extra cost.
The Nicholas Building is open to the public from 8am-8.30pm on weekdays and 8am-6pm on weekends. Outside of these hours, a swipe card is required for 24-hour access. Please let us know if you'd like to access the building after-hours and we can provide you with a swipe card.
Sound system specs:
The room contains 4 JBL Control 25 wall-mounted speakers and an Australian Monitor IC30 Mixer Amplifier with an aux cord input so you can plug into a laptop or device.
We do not provide the following equipment: video projectors, stage/studio lighting, microphones or PA systems.
At Missing Persons, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure the space. All bookings must be paid for (in full) prior to the time and date of your booking.
Pricing from 1 July 2019
Our rates are two-tiered and vary from a flat fee of $100 to $200 depending on the size and scale of your individual project or event. See the information below for examples of how we distinguish between the two tiers. Please note: we no longer take bookings at an hourly rate. The minimum fee for booking Missing Persons is $100 unless we sponsor your event.
$100 day rate (one hour or more between 9am–5pm) – projects ‘in development’, testing an idea, art projects, classes, talk, small-scale events, public programs, performances, showcases, ticketed and free events, start-ups, theatre, rehearsals, student projects ie student film location
$200 day rate (one hour or more between 9am–5pm) – medium-sized event or launch, commercial projects, product launches, product or fashion photography location, meetings, ticketed and free events, private events
$100 evening rate (one hour or more between 5pm–midnight) – projects ‘in development’, testing an idea, art projects, classes, talk, small-scale events, public programs, performances, showcases, ticketed and free events, start-ups, theatre, rehearsals, student projects ie student film location
$200 evening rate (one hour or more between 5pm–midnight) - medium-sized events or launches, commercial projects, product launches, product or fashion photography location, corporate meetings, ticketed and free events, private events

Missing Persons presents a curated exhibition program as well as its own life drawing sessions. For this reason, we do not rent the gallery for art exhibitions or figure/still-life drawing.

The Nicholas Building's loading zone (Cocker Alley) is no longer available due to the construction of the Melbourne Metro Rail Project.
There is very limited free parking because we are located at a busy intersection in the CBD. You may find a 15-minute loading zone on Flinders Lane between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets.
