Missing Persons is an independent multi-arts space located in the Nicholas Building in Melbourne / Naarm. The community-driven space encourages flexible and experimental programming across art forms.

ABOUT: Missing Persons is a 67-square-metre community art space in the iconic Nicholas Building. It is a clean space with white walls, an oxblood floor, and large industrial steel windows. The space has two ceiling fans, a cold water tap and sink, a wooden cabinet/bar on wheels, and fluorescent and gallery track lighting.  OPERATING HOURS: We operate 7 days per week + after-hour access. Missing Persons is utilised for one-off and regular events such as life drawing, photography, private and public workshops, book launches, pop-up retail, dance or theatre rehearsals, and productions, plus more.  FACILITIES: Missing Persons is fitted with a surround sound system and WiFi. We can provide POS hardware, 4 trestle tables, and 30 folding chairs at no extra cost.

Missing Persons is situated in the Nicholas Building on the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Lane. Find us on level 4 in room 11-12.

The Nicholas Building is open to the public from 8am-8.30pm on weekdays and 8am-5pm on weekends. Outside of these hours, a swipe card is required for 24-hour access. Please let us know if you'd like to access the building after-hours and we can provide you with a swipe card.

Sound system specs: 
The room contains 4 JBL Control 25 wall-mounted speakers and an Australian Monitor IC30 Mixer Amplifier with an aux cord input so you can plug into a laptop or device.

We do not provide the following equipment: video projectors, stage/studio lighting, microphones or PA systems.

The Nicholas Building has a 15-minute loading zone situated in Cocker Alley (off Flinders Lane). You may bring equipment into the building via the goods lift which is accessible via the alleyway. There is very limited free parking in the area because we are located at a busy intersection in the CBD. You may find a 15-minute loading zone on Flinders Lane between Elizabeth and Swanston Streets.

Please note: We're not taking bookings for exhibitions or events that occur after 31 October 2023. The price for venue hire varies from $150 + GST (non profit) to $220 + GST (commercial) depending on the size and scale of your individual project or event. We charge by the day or evening. The DAY rate is one hour or more between 9am–5pm. The EVENING rate is one hour or more between 5pm–midnight. NON PROFIT RATES: $150 +GST PER DAY/EVENING This rate applies to non-profit projects, small-scale events, public programs, performances, free events, start-ups, theatre, and rehearsals. COMMERCIAL RATES $220 + GST PER DAY/EVENING This applies to commercial projects, product launches, product or fashion photography location, meetings, ticketed events, medium-sized events or launches, private events. PRICING TERMS: At Missing Persons, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure the space. All bookings must be paid for in full prior to the time and date of your booking. SERVICE CLEANING FEE: Most bookings attract a $50 service cleaning fee. BEFORE CONTACTING US, PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION ABOVE. If you have further questions regarding the cost of hiring Missing Persons on a short-term or ongoing basis, please email us with your preferred dates (including bump-in/bump-out) and an outline of your project. NON-PERMITTED ACTIVITIES: Missing Persons does not rent the gallery for events that require loud amplified music. Missing Persons presents its own life drawing sessions. For this reason, we do not rent the gallery for figure or still-life drawing workshops or hen parties.
