Aboriginal Creative Studio Space 2024
Space overview
Creative Spaces is pleased to offer a studio space for 12 months at Boyd Studios, free of charge, to the successful applicant. This opportunity is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists and creative practitioners.
Applications open 3pm, 2 May and close 3pm, 30 May 2024.
The aim of the Aboriginal Creative Studio Space is to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists and creative practitioners to advance their practice through the provision of a space to create and grow.
It is a requirement to attend a Boyd Studios site visit. Inspections are available on the following dates:
- Tuesday 14 May at 2pm
- Tuesday 21 May at 11am
RSVP via email to creativespaces@melbourne.vic.gov.au with your preferred site visit date, a short description of your creative practice and your contact number.
If you are unable to attend on the above listed dates you may designate a proxy.
Application questions: Applicants will be required to answer the following three questions.
- Tell us about your practice (200 words maximum)
- Describe how you will use the studio space at Boyd Studios (200 words maximum)
- Describe how the studio space at Boyd Studios will benefit and extend your practice (200 words maximum)
Studio rent: There is no cost to the successful applicant. In-kind rent is valued at $3,979 inclusive of GST.
Access: The successful applicant/s will have 24/7 access to the studio and Boyd building facilities. Licensees are required to work from their studios a minimum of twice per week.
Boyd is the City of Melbourne’s first integrated community service space, housing the Southbank Library, a cafe, family services, meeting rooms and artist studios.

The space is secure, is 17m2 and has good natural light, wooden floors, high ceilings, heating and air-conditioning and wireless internet connection. There is a kitchen, bathroom (with shower) and dining area close by.
Boyd Studios in Southbank is situated within a multi-use facility that includes the Southbank Library, House of Cards Espresso and meeting rooms.
