Space overview

Under the grandeur of the historic Hobart Town Hall is a hidden, rustic treasure. Known as “The Underground” it comprises a hallway and four rooms, including the ex-constable’s room. At the height of its use, the rooms were connected by a tight staircase to the Town Hall Courtroom above.

The intimate, cave-like Underground offers an interestingly raw backdrop for small creative events such as installations, contemporary music, performance installations, sculpture exhibitions, a gallery space, or eerie book launches and poetry readings.
