Space overview
TheySwarm studios for Black, Indigenous and people of colour with priority to queer / trans* / disabled artists- is located on Johnston Street, Collingwood in a lovely two-storey shopfront heritage terrace above TextaQueen's studio and TheySwarm artist residency space.
This is a private and large, lockable space with two windows for natural sunlight, high ceilings and beautiful old polished floorboards. 3.5 x 5.8 m. There is lots of storage and a built in desk. Trestle table, chairs, portable fan and space heater are available for use. Access to building is via electronic keypads, upstairs tenants pass through the downstairs shopfront studio to go upstairs. The studio is lockable via padlock on door, with a latch for privacy on interior.
We're 500 m to both train (Victoria Park) or tram (86), with the 200 bus stop directly outside. We're close to coffee, 500 m from Smith Street food and buzz.

The shopfront studio and window alcove hosts occasional showings and intimate events with BIPOC artists - studio residents are welcome to propose their own.
Accessibility: The studio is upstairs (21 steps). Entrance (photo before renovation) to building and ground floor bathroom access is step-free . Low scent and COVID cautious space - if you use solvents or oil paints, please use an air purifier in the studio. Not suitable for daily client visits due to other artist's chemical sensitivities and risk.
Entrance to the two upstairs studios is via the downstairs shopfront studio.
There are two timid low-allergen cats who may appear - downstairs and in upstairs hall. Plus a friendly chihuahua often in the downstairs studio.
Air purifier operates in downstairs studio. Mask to be worn through entrance, downstairs studio and in hall.
